We are an initiative of scholars from the fields of science studies, the life and natural sciences, mathematics, sociology, and cultural anthropology, who use diverse research approaches to investigate various uses of DNA analyses: in research, biomedicine, by the state, or in police work. Some of us have been working together for years, but the current members of this initiative began this productive, interdisciplinary cooperation only in November 2016.

During our work on the open letter, our diverse expertise, research experiences, questions and perspectives complemented one another; it’s our common ground. Where our point of views on the legislative process differ they can be found as individual contributions listed on the page „Publikationen & Vorträge„.

Since the publication of our open letter (December 8th, 2016), our group has grown considerably and we have changed the name of our initiative from STS@Freiburg to WIE-DNA to reflect that its scope is beyond Science and Technology Studies.
